FROM Farnham Grammar School and Trinity College of Music in London Michael Overbury won an Organ Scholarship to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he also became an assisting organ scholar at King's College. After graduating, he was, successively, Assistant Organist at New College, Oxford, a deputy organist and choirmaster at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban's, Director of Music at Eagle House Preparatory School for Boys, and Master of the Song School at Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Since winning First Prize in the 1982 Manchester International Organ Competition, he has appeared twice as soloist at the Royal Festival Hall, and has played with numerous choirs and orchestras, and has featured on several recordings, including two solo discs.
Michael lives in Newark, pursuing a free-lance career of playing, teaching, and writing. He plays with the East Midlands-based period-instrument group Mvsica Donvm Dei, is Organist at his local parish church, Christ Church, and is Director of Music of the Nottingham Boys Choir.
