Edward Tarr Brass Ensemble
|The Edward Tarr Brass Ensemble is a recording and concert group
devoted to the performance of music of all periods on ancient as well as modern instruments. The group is composed of three
trumpeters (Edward H. Tarr, Jean-Pierre Mathez, Charles von Drak) and three trombonists
(Helmut Schmitt, Kurt Federowitz, Karl-Heinz Weber).
The Ensemble's leader, Edward Tarr, was born in Norwich, Connecticut, in 1936. He studied trumpet in Boston with Roger Voisin and in Chicago with Adolph Herseth. In 1959, he studied musicology in Basel, Switzerland, with the late Professor Leo Schrade. He has performed as a soloist throughout Europe and in such major festivals as the Handel Festival in Gottingen, Germany, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France.
